SPOTT is a free online platform that evaluates commodity producers, processors, and traders based on publicly available information about how they run their businesses. How We Produce Our
Sustainable Palm Oil
In A Different Way

Here are just some of the ways we produce palm oil differently:

We produce our ingredients in a way that protects high conservation value forests and biodiversity.
Our oil yields per hectare rank among the highest in the world. This comes from our in-house seed breeding and strong agronomic practices. Higher yields reduce pressure on tropical forests.
We focus on limiting our environmental impact. Our "no net carbon loss" plan guides our expansion. We rehabilitate abandoned estates, improve smallholder yields, upgrade underperforming estates, and plant on low-carbon land such as grassland.
We also invest in people. Our operations directly support local communities. We fund housing, education, and healthcare for employees and their families. We also support wider community projects through the NBPOL Foundation.

We pay neighbouring smallholders a premium for low-impact production. We absorb this cost rather than pass it to customers.
We led the industry by including more than 8,000 smallholders in our certification process.
The palm oil used by New Britain Oils comes from certified operations in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Our supply chain undergoes independent verification by BM TRADA.

Sustainability guides how we conduct our business. We are a founding member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and consistently support and uphold the RSPO Principles & Criteria. These principles serve as our standard and ensure responsible oil palm planting. Almost all of our estates are RSPO-certified, guaranteeing high-quality, sustainable palm oil products. Additionally, our parent company, Sime Darby Plantation, participates in several working committees.
